Virtualization: VirtualBox vs VMPlayer

My recommendation: VMPlayer

I’ve been playing around with virtualization software at work trying to setup my environment and I’m firmly in the VMPlayer camp now.

Issue:

Dealbreaker for me was USB support and in particular SD card support. Neither software was able to recognize the laptop’s built-in SD card reader and when I used an external SD card reader VMPlayer was able to recognize it immediately. I wasn’t able to get VirtualBox to recognize it and I played with the USB settings for over 3 hours and gave up. The empty USB filter is suppose to be enough but wasn’t working for me.

My recommendation: VMPlayer
